Lillooet BC, July 18, 2023 – Chief and Council of Cayoose Creek Band have engaged MNP LLP to complete a forensic audit for potential violations of the Band’s financial, human resources, and other policies following concerns raised by Band members over the disbursement and discretionary spending of health funding and other sources of Band funding.
“Our community members have concerns over the previous administration’s spending and overall lack of transparency, objectivity and accountability,” said recently elected Chief Bonnie Adolph. “We share these concerns. We need to understand if policies were not properly followed and hold any individuals accountable should any wrongdoing be uncovered. We have engaged MNP who has a multi-disciplinary team of forensic accountants, former law enforcement investigators and forensic IT specialists, as a neutral third party to conduct this audit in the spirit of impartiality and fairness.”
Currently the forensic audit scope is an investigation and policy review from 2017 onward, and addresses concerns about the conduct of former employees with the disbursement and discretionary spending of health funding and other sources of Band funding, including travel and expense reimbursement, staff honoraria allocations, use of Band credit cards, and gift card allocations. The forensic audit will consider the potential role of the Chief and Council and others in the workplace who may have been involved in these matters.
“This forensic audit will show where the dollars have been going and how the transactions were authorized. Our community deserves to know what has happened, and we will share the findings of this audit once it is completed. We also commit to the community full transparency from our administration.” added Chief Adolph.
Chief Adolph was recently elected in May 2023, receiving a majority of votes and thereby defeating longtime incumbent Chief Michelle Edwards.
